Roman Chamomile essential Oil (Chamaemelum Nobile)

Chamomile is one of the most popular herbal teas in the western world. Roman chamomile essential oil is used widely to treat babies and infants since it is very soothing to the skin and is a very strong anti-inflammatory. It is also the first choice from menstrual issues, PMS, cramps and mood swings.

The name chamomile comes from two greek words which together mean apple on the ground. The beautiful scent indeed resembles apple.

Scent: sweet and fruity.

Extraction Method: steam distillation of the flowers.

Colour: pale to mid blue.

Note: middle.

Properties: balancing, calming, emotionally stabilising, relaxing.

Chakra: Throat.

Cautions: very safe but very rarely, can cause dermatitis. Avoid if you have allergy prone skin.

Blends well with: bergamot, clary sage, jasmine, neroli, rose, geranium and lavender, nutmeg, frankincense and most floral, herbal essential oils.

Easy uses of roman chamomile essential oil

Stress away – 3 drops chamomile and 2 drops orange essential oil in the diffuser or a bath.

Sleep aid – warm bath with 4 drops chamomile and 2 drops sandalwood.

Skin inflammation – 3 drops roman chamomile and neroli and 2 drops lavender in a tablespoon of apricot oil.

Diaper rash – 1 drop chamomile in a tablespoon of olive oil.

Lower back pain – 2 drops chamomile and 2 drops sandalwood in a tablespoon of base oil.

Spiritual chamomile

Promotes expression of ones personal truth, child-like innocence and curiousity. Harmonizing, peaceful, soothing the spirit.

Baths: add 5-8 drops to bath
Massages: add 2-3 drops of essential oils to 15 ml (1 tablespoonful) of carrier oil
Vaporisation: add 2-4 drops of essential oils to a burner.
