Citronella oil

Citronella essential oil (Cymbopogon Winterianus) is less common in aromatherapy use but very popular as a mosquito repellent. Read here about citronella and other mosquito repellent essential oils such as lemon eucalyptus, clove, peppermint, lemongrass, basil, eucalyptus, fennel and thyme.

Can also treat oily skin and hair, in a formula.

Description & Uses

Scent: Sweet, citrus.

Extraction Method: Steam distillation of the leaves (grass).

Color: Yellow to Green.

Note: Middle to top.

Cautions: do not use while pregnant, not suitable for little children.

Blends well with: cedarwood, clary sage, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, lemon, Peppermint, spearmint, tea tree and rosemary essential oil.

Properties: refreshing, uplifting, stimulating, clearing, emotional, warming, comforting.

Geranium and citronella essential oils mosquito repellent

1 cup distilled water

1 tablespoon white vinegar

30 drops geranium essential oil

30 drops citronella essential oil

30 drops fennel essential oil

Mix well and pour into a spray bottle. Good only for 1 month from making so use often.

Baths: add 5-8 drops to bath
Massages: add 2-3 drops of essential oils to 15ml (1 tablespoonful) of carrier oil
Vaporisation: add 2-4 drops of essential oils to a burner.
