Lemon Essential Oil (Citrus Limonum)
Greeks and Romans used lemon therapeutically by the middle ages. The British used the citrus fruit to treat the effects of scurvy. In Spain and Italy lemon is used for almost everything, especially fevers and viral infections. Nowadays lemon oil is often added to homemade cleaning preparations for its fresh clean scent.
The lemon peel is full of tiny sacs that contain the essential oil.
Common uses of Lemon essential oil:
Antibacterial and antiseptic.
Use in household cleaning when washing floors and disinfecting surfaces with vinegar and baking soda. Refreshing, purifying and cleansing.
Can help with warts, corns and verrucas.
Varicose veins.
Cellulite.
Astringent.
Reduce excess sebum in oily skin, greasy hair.
Good as a toner or rinse.
Particularly good for acne prone skin (diluted).
Slight bleaching effect which can be used on skin with freckles or to bring out the highlights in blond hair.
Good to add to lymphatic drainage massage oil.

Blends well with: citruses, florals and most essential oils. If a blend smells “wrong” a few drops of lemon will usually help.
Easy uses of lemon essential oil
In my house I use Lemon oil mainly for cleaning, it has such a clean smell:)

To clear confusion: a few drops of lemon and eucalyptus essential oils in the diffuser.
Mood swings: a bath with 2 drops lemon and geranium essential oils.
Flu and cold: steam inhalation of lemon and tea tree essential oils.
Flu massage: 3 drops lemon, 3 drops myrtle, 2 drops tea tree essential oil in a tablespoon of base oil. Massage to your chest, back or wherever your muscles are tired and aching.
Lower back pain massage: 2 drops lemon and lavender essential oil. Good also for the 3rd trimester in pregnancy.

Baths: add 5-8 drops to bath
Massages: add 2-3 drops of essential oils to 15 ml (1 tablespoonful) of carrier oil
Vaporisation: add 2-4 drops of essential oils to a burner.
